A. What life skill did you set as your graduation goal?

The life skill I set as my graduation goal is becoming a better cook than I already am. I wouldn’t say I’m bad at cooking, I’m decent, but I want to leave high school knowing how to confidently cook good, healthy meals for myself without needing help or relying on fast food. Cooking is something I see as an important life skill because it connects to independence, being healthy, and responsibility, especially as I get closer to adulthood and college.

B. How have you worked toward this goal so far?

So far, I’ve worked toward this goal by actually trying to cook more instead of avoiding it or sticking to the same few meals. I’ve explored making new foods and experimented with different ingredients, and cooking methods. I also try to focus on healthier options rather than just cooking whatever's easiest. Each time I cook, I pay more attention to how the food turns out and what I could do better next time. Even when something doesn’t come out perfect, I still try to learn from it and try again.

C. What specific actions or habits show progress? ( or kept you from it? )

One clear sign of progress is that my food/meal-preps tastes way better now than it did at the start of the year. I’m much more comfortable in the kitchen, and I understand flavors, timing, and basic techniques better than before. I’m also more willing to try new recipes instead of sticking to what feels safe. However, a habit that sometimes holds me back is putting off cooking when I’m busy or tired. There are times when I rush meals or choose convenience instead of taking the time to cook properly.

D. What do you still need to improve before graduation in regards to this life skill goal of yours?

Before graduating, I need to improve at making time to cook for myself consistently. That means planning ahead, not rushing my meals, and treating cooking as a priority rather than something I push off. If I can manage my time better and stay consistent, I know my cooking skills will continue to improve and be something I can rely on after high school.
